Removing Barriers, Restoring Hope

First Day’s Access to Care Program is a lifeline for individuals working to exit homelessness and build stable, independent lives. By addressing the root causes of housing insecurity—financial hardship, unemployment, and untreated mental health needs—the program provides wraparound support tailored to each client’s journey. From rent assistance and employment coaching to trauma-informed counseling and on-site medical care, Access to Care equips over 1,300 participants annually with the tools they need to move forward. More than just a program, it’s a pathway to possibility.

Access to Care Program : The Access to Care Program is designed to eliminate the key barriers that prevent individuals from achieving permanent housing. Through a holistic and person-centered approach, the program helps participants overcome financial, employment, and mental health challenges that often stand in the way of stability.

To reduce financial barriers, the program provides direct assistance with first and last month’s rent, ensuring that participants can secure housing without the upfront costs that often make it inaccessible. To address employment-related obstacles, our onsite Employment Specialist offers individualized support with resume building, skills training, and interview preparation—empowering clients to reenter the workforce with confidence.

Recognizing that mental health is a critical factor in housing stability, the program also includes onsite clinical support provided by a dedicated MSW clinician. Participants receive trauma-informed mental health and substance use counseling, helping them build the emotional and psychological foundation needed for long-term success.

In addition, the Access to Care Program provides essential items such as hygiene supplies, clothing, bus and gas vouchers, access to phones and computers, mailing services, and assistance obtaining vital identification documents. Our medical clinic, operated in partnership with PIH Health and supported by a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), offers integrated health services that further stabilize clients on their path to housing.
Each year, the program supports approximately 1,300 individuals—ensuring they receive the comprehensive care and resources needed to transition from homelessness to permanent housing.
